The ceiling system for large capacity motor vehicles such as intercity coaches has the base(8) of the luggage compartments(7) and their doors(9) as integrated component parts of the system which is for fastening to the roof(3) of the vehicle. The luggage compartment doors in their closed state, each with one of their longitudinal edges lying on the same plane as the base, are connected to the latter. For opening, the doors are hinged upwards around pivot points(10) which are located in the region of their longitudinal edges facing away from the luggage compartments or adjacent to the longitudinal center of the vehicle.
