A method for operating an inverter, and an inverter comprising means (DC+, DC-) for coupling the inverter (10) with a photovoltaic array (20) comprising at least one photovoltaic panel, wherein the inverter (10) further comprises means (11) configured to connect output poles of a photovoltaic array (20) comprising at least one photovoltaic panel in short circuit with each other, means (11) configured to measure a current supplied by the photovoltaic array (20) through the output poles (A, B) after they have been connected in short circuit with each other, and means (11) configured to start a DC-to-AC conversion of power supplied by the photovoltaic array (20) if the measured current exceeds a predetermined threshold.
