The treadwear sensor comprises a base plate (139) on an interior side of the innerliner (133) and a tube (143) extending from the base plate through the innerliner and the plurality of belts to a first wear depth in the tread such that an end of the tube (143) is exposed through the tire when the tread (119) is worn to the first wear depth. Also, a method is disclosed comprising providing a treadwear sensor having a tube and a base plate disposed at a first end of the tube, the treadwear sensor being configured to produce a unique leak signature when a tread is worn to a wear depth, and inserting the tube of the treadwear sensor through an innerliner of a tire such that a second end of the tube is disposed in the tread of the tire at the wear depth and the base plate is adjacent to the innerliner. Finally, an apparatus is disclosed comprising a base having a hole, an elongated member extending from the base, and a channel connecting the hole of the base to a distal end of the elongated member.",
