The invention relates to an operating device (3) for a motor vehicle (1), comprising a touchpad (7) for generating a touch signal (T) which is dependent on a point of contact (12) on an operating surface (10) of a touch disk (8) of the touchpad (7), and a sensor device (14) with at least one sensor (29) for generating a pressure signal (P) which is dependent on a pressure force (15) acting on the sensor (29). The touchpad (7) is mounted movably relative to the sensor device (14) by means of a carrier device (25) such that a pressing force (13) exerted by a user (4) on the operating surface (10) acts as the pressure force (15) on the sensor device (14). The touch disk (8) is to be protected against breakage. For this purpose, the touchpad (7) is fastened to the carrier device (25) by means of at least one pivot element (24), by which the touchpad (7) is deflectable parallel (22) to the operating surface (10) relative to the carrier device (25) and is mounted rigidly perpendicular (21) to the operating surface (10) on the carrier device (25).
