According to the invention there is provided a system (200) and a method for determining a usage limit for an energy storage device (102). The method comprises determining (S301) a travel parameter value or an age since manufacturing of the energy storage device. A first variation or a second variation of an operating parameter of the energy storage device based on historical data relating the operating parameter to the travel parameter is determined (S305, S307) and compared to an actual operating parameter variation. A first or a second operating parameter variation difference (dQ1, dQ2) between the actual variation and the first and second variation of the operating parameter is calculated (S309, S311). Based on the first or the second operating parameter variation difference, a usage limit adjustment is determined (S315) and used to adjust (S317) a previous usage limit.
