I'm only an adult because I'm 40 but I feel like a child. Is anyone as lost as I feel now?

I’ve realized I’m a very atypical person: talking to coworkers in my age range today I realized they have a better financial situation than mine: they are married, some with children, own their own condos, houses, or are paying a mortgage, but can still live a normal life, own a car, some even have the luxury of not having to work 40…

Is social interaction really all that?

I genuinely don’t understand why society treats social interaction like it’s one of the most important things in life.

If someone spends a weekend alone, people assume they’re lonely. If someone has no interest in constant messaging, group chats, or hanging out every week, people think something must be wrong.

Meanwhile, a lot of…

Have you ever had a dream so immersive that it fucks with your head?

I just had a really weird dream. One of those that you wake up and go back into the same dream later when you fall asleep again. I was me but surrounded by people I don’t know irl but I truly did in my dream. I was with a group of friends. One of them was going through a separation and we were helping him move out. The ex was there as…

Best longterm offline Linux friendly games? Give me your best!

I like community builders and games that I can keep a world for years and grow, watch it evolve. I enjoy Rimworld. ARK evolved series is good.

Bonus if it’s multiplayer capable LAN and not online.

Oxygen not included is nice but mentally taxing sometimes. I prefer laid back chill games with economy and farming. 2d or 3d doesn’t…

Is social interaction actually enjoyable or just socially required?

submitted by userreality to asklemmy

I genuinely don’t understand how people see social interaction as something beautiful or natural. To me it feels like pure obligation.

Even at work you are not really yourself. You are adjusting how you speak, how you act, and how you respond just to fit the role, satisfy your employer, and keep things smooth with colleagues. That…

What is a good alternative to move away from Github?

I use Github for many years and want to move all my repos away from it. What is a good alternative, preferably one that is easy to push? Ideally i will be cloning all my repos to hard drive and then just push to whatever service. At first glance, there are many options: Bitbucket, Gitlab, Codeberg, Gitea…etc. I will be self hosting…

What do you do for fun

Guys I’m in a slump, I keep having the same fight every time I feel bored and want to go out to do something and I can’t because I don’t know what to do because I don’t even know what kinds of things I can do, like what classification of activity I should pick. And even when I do pick an activity class I’m paralyzed with the decisions…

Does anyone else feel irritated when deeply religious people connect everything with god?

For example, you put yourself through university by studying hard and working full time. Then someone says, you should thank god for giving you the strength. Like wtf do you mean, I busted my ass day in and day out but I’m supposed to thank god for it?

The default Samsung keyboard is ass.... Suggestions for a new keyboard? What's your favorite on Android?

Finally dumped SwiftKey after being served with an ad for OneDrive inside the fucking keyboard itself. I’m still pissed they sold-out to Microsoft. (Been using it since long before that acquisition)

Now I need something to replace it, but I’ve not explored other options much.

[US] Should there be an amendment that allows Supreme Court rulings to be overturned?

I’ve noticed that people either accept or reject Supreme Court rulings, especially the most significant ones. But they’ve come up with a way to overturn them.

This proposed amendment would be based on the ratification provision in the Constitution, which requires only three-quarters of the states to approve an amendment.…

People with long hair who use insect repellent: what do you do with your hair to keep it clean?

I have waist length hair. I don’t like how I look with no hair or a buzz cut, and I find longer hair easier to manage. I’m not dead-set on this length, it just seems the best config for my life in general.

When it’s not gardening season, I wash my hair 2x per week. I have a super low tolerance for greasy or dirty hair and this…
