Half-assed gallery of Flag Da Parade photos

I had a great time marching in the La Mesa Flag Day Parade yesterday with the La Mesa Lodge 407 Free & Accepted Masons, and enjoying a delicious lunch and fellowship afterward. I missed getting a good photo of Deadpool, Superman and a women in a red-white-and-blue gown with like tentacles for hair, marching together. What do those things have to do with Flag Day? Deadpool isn’t even American…

Look Up (165/365)

Last overnight in CUN, thank goodness. It’s so hot and humid here; I just can’t do it. I’m done until next winter. A couple of decent shots and a number of unpublishable ones today. Some shots you think will be good just don’t turn out. Nice weather, full airplanes, and on time, no drama, and no mechanical issues—all make for a good day. Stray Pixels

2026 Album #004: Kacey Musgraves - Middle of Nowhere

Country music can be hit or miss for me. There's some country music that I have really enjoyed listening to, such as (shock) Taylor Swift, but also a couple of other smaller artists I would mention if I hadn't deleted my previous blog. Oh well! I did not really enjoy Kacey's last album all that much, I did not get the hype, so let's see how I feel this time.

Kacey Musgraves - Middle of…

new england is still a calvinist experiment

i was born and raised in new england. for most of my life, i had no idea how different it was from the rest of the united states. even today, i still am reminded of things that are strictly new england based that don't exist elsewhere. what do you mean you don't offer coffee milk as one of the milk options to elementary school students? so like... why is it like that? every region in the US…

Why I'm (Almost) Buying a MacBook Neo Before Paris

What if I don’t plan to use any AI tools? What if I don’t plan to multitask like crazy and focus, instead, for once? What if I don’t need the mightiness of my MacBook Air, yet a trustworthy ally? What if I don’t want to lose my Apple Pencil for a third time during this upcoming vacation? What if I want a small yet powerful Mac while on the plane? After reading Matt Birchler’s blog post about the…

The House Fire, Pt. 1

(There's no punchline at any point so bail if you get bored)

I was a firefighter in a past life, mostly as a volunteer after discovering my earning potential exceeded the amount the town was willing to pay public servants.

Aside: I recommend looking into become a volunteer firefighter in your community if you live in a smaller less populated area - they really need the help and it's super…

That Poor Girl

I watched Obsession the other day. I won't go into spoilers here (this is more of a baseline thing, I think), because I truly think that if you're down for horror with an incredibly dark sense of humor that you should see it. However, in my somewhat empty late night showing, I couldn't help but repeat the words this/that poor girl. The idea of one's consent and bodily autonomy in fiction being…

Old Mate Post Season

The Old Mate makes it to the playoffs once again. It has missed the playoffs only once (not including the aborted 2020 season) - in 2021 when New England Free Jacks took it from Rugby ATL in the final regular season match and the Free Jacks failed to make the post season. It has changed hands in the first round of the playoffs in 2018 (Seattle taking it from San Diego), 2019 (Seattle taking it…

Abenteuer Alltag (08.-14.06.2026)

Was in der Küche...

Slow recovery

5 weeks since my bike crash. I would have thought I'd be putting this time to
better use but no such luck. Time off the bike means more time to work on
development projects. Problem is my brain's. been in a bit of a fog and my
vision has made computer work less fun. So I've been avoiding the computer.
But now a heat spell is upon us and I can't handle the outside work that has
been…
