Submit Android apps to our AppVerifier database

Thanks for pinging me @jonah

@Expert4870 out of curiosity, are you importing data.yml directly into the app? The Privacy Guides database is already included as part of the internal database, so there shouldn’t be a need to import it manually.

That being said, the import issue with |- is a real bug — the parser doesn’t handle fingerprints that use this YAML block scalar format. I’ve…

Remove cross-platform browser criterion

I am not trying to blame you for not finding it . I just had deja vu reading this because I had commented on the other thread so I knew it existed.

I also wasn’t sure if you are asking for the same thing. As the thread I am linking just wants to remove it as a minimum criteria. You may want it removed completley.

EDIT: I would also point specifically to @jonah reply in the abolish…

Interview with Naomi Brockwell: From Content Creator to Policymaker

Just finished watching @henry-fisher’s interview and it was equally compelling as PG’s.
Below are some the main takeaways I have from this interview:

WE NEED MORE PRIVACY ADVOCATES

There is way too much ground for any one person to cover.

This is something that I can appreciate, even though I still admittedly wonder why certain privacy organizations or advocates, don’t cover certain…

Is secureblue linux [ secureblue.dev ] also vulnerable by these three recent linux vulnerabilities - Copy Fail, Copy Fail 2 and Dirty Frag?

You, might be able to get a response from the secureblue dev here if you ping them once, and again be respectful.

Though I don’t know if the secureblue dev has be active on this forum recently. There are also other contact methods for the secureblue developer on the website namely Bluesky and Discord.

Also this might not be relevant to you, but I figured I might as well link it. In the…

Inaccurate statement about Brave Search on recommended search engines

When was PrivacyPass implemented? More recently than the May2024 commit?

At a surface level, this does seem to mitigate the concern, but I am admittedly unfamiliar with PrivacyPass & have not done a forensic audit

It looks like @redoomed1 made the edit, with @jonah specifically requesting the language:

Jonah: I’m okay with changing it, if we note that using Brave Search Premium with an…

Question Regarding Forum Moderation Transparency and Feedback

seize:

then there has been no communication from the Privacy Guides team, or forum moderators around what came out of this topic in regards to the Privacy Guides team and forum moderators

This is pretty typical as @win11.shading291 noted it takes a while… and as @jonah has said he will not put any sort of SLA on answering matters, so don’t expect an improvement on this.

What should we require of VPN providers on macOS?

jonah:

I also still need to look into whether IVPN uses includeAllNetworks on iOS. Knowing what other major companies are doing should probably inform this decision, because if they also think the iOS-provided killswitch is utterly useless then I might not agree with making it a requirement. This is why I clarified only specific OSes until we figure out what the final version should look…

How should we handle Proton's misleading marketing?

Proton_Team:

There are some mitigations against this in place - users are warned before switching servers that their VPN connection may be briefly interrupted

Where are they warned about this? @jonah made a video demonstrating the issue and I don’t see this warning anywhere. I have also been unable to find any documentation stating that the user’s IP would not be protected during server…

Video demo: Proton kill switch not working as described on macOS

@jonah Interesting video with useful information. I experienced similar issues with Proton VPN on Linux (the app itself worked fine, but I encountered network problems, particularly when the Advanced Kill Switch was enabled). Connection speeds sometimes dropped significantly, requiring me to disable the kill switch, switch servers, or restart the application to restore functionality. This issue…

What should we require of VPN providers on macOS?

I’ve read the entirety of all 5 threads related to removing Proton VPN and I’d like to validate my understanding as the issue seem technical.

First, from reading the threads, I believe the below is what most agrees on:

Overall-Bet3743:

What should you require of VPN providers on macOS?
My answer: The same minimum standard that you should apply to all other OSs.

**What should the…

Disappointment with PG teams handling of the "Remove ProtonVPN" post

For me the biggest issue I had was the lack of response.

I know @jonah made it very clear there is no SLA but when you have a team member in @nateb saying we will internally discuss and get back to everyone and then there is silence for 7+ weeks that doesn’t come off right. i think its reasonable to expect some sort of an update within a couple of weeks. Even if its just “hey we didn’t forget,…

Why are there criteria changes being made without a discussion thread and approval first?

I’m marking as the solution because you are the final say but I think you are misunderstanding my concern…or I am just mistaken.

Concerning point tho is the fact that @jonah reacted by proposing OP to just create a blog to avoid such issues in the future.
I do not disagree with people hosting their own blog/socials , yet it looks like a weird thing to say to somebody on a forum.

I read the thread you shared as a PDF when it was on the forum and was pretty shocked by this reply from Jonah. “Just create a blog”…
