Corsair’s new RAM kits include samurai art and dummy modules

Buying memory in 2026 is a painful process. It’s so bad that companies like V-Color are selling single DIMMs with dummy modules, just so the inside of your PC doesn’t look so pathetic. Corsair is getting in on that action with a little extra flair. The new Shugo kit includes a teeny tiny painting on each DIMM, and both dummy RAM sticks. Neat?

It costs over $500 for 32GB. Less neat.

Cooler Master’s new RAM has a built-in fan. Yes, really

CPUs, GPUs, SSDs—all of them need cooling to various degrees, and some combination of heatsinks, fans, and cycled liquid will get the job done. But what about memory?

When running at crazy speeds of 8,400MHz or higher, your DDR5 DIMMs can get pretty toasty. Cooler Master’s latest offering at Computex manages it with a tiny fan embedded in the stick.

According to the announcement, this setup is…

Asus picked the worst possible time to start selling gaming RAM

Selling ice cubes in a blizzard, or pool floaties on the International Space Station, or inflatable dart boards. It’s hard to think of a situation more unfortunate than launching a line of premium, high-performance gaming memory during a RAM shortage, when PC buyers are extremely anxious about rising prices. Yet here we are—or, at least, here sits Asus.

The company just debuted a new 48GB…

The PC hardware slump is real. So is the reason to keep caring

Is PC building cooked? The hardware news as of late might make you think so, what with the latest headlines about “collapsing” motherboard sales—as much as 37 percent for individual vendors.

A Digitimes report (h/t Tom’s Hardware) paints a grim picture. Among the biggest four Taiwanese companies hawking mainboards—Asus, Gigabyte, ASRock, and MSI—all have seen steep drops in sales compared to…

A Samsung strike could make your RAM even more expensive

As if the AI data center boom wasn’t causing enough problems for PC hardware, a looming strike in Samsung’s home territory of South Korea could grind the memory giant’s already-strained production to a halt.

According to the latest reporting from Reuters, a long-simmering dispute between Samsung and its unionized labor force has boiled over, with no compromise in sight even after days of…

The RAM crisis is bringing out DDR5 counterfeiters

_Caveat emptor_ (“let the buyer beware”) is the rallying cry of every con man and huckster who tries to fleece a mark. But it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re hunting for a deal in the nightmarish hellscape that is the PC market in 2026, especially if you’re doing so on secondary markets like Craigslist and eBay. Thanks to the RAM crisis, scams are multiplying quickly, as they always do for…

Bought G.Skill RAM after 2018? You could claim up to $150 in free cash

DDR5 RAM is now three-to-four times as expensive as it should be, thanks to the “AI” boom (and it won’t stop there). But this week, there’s an oh-so-rare opportunity for consumers to fight back, at least for a small subset of United States consumers… via a successful class-action lawsuit against G.Skill. (Hey, you gotta take your wins where you can get ’em.)

A settlement has been reached over a…

Intel is helping develop a new type of DRAM aimed at AI

Intel began as a memory supplier. The PC industry faces its most dire memory crunch in years, if not decades. So it makes sense for Intel to move back into PC memory, right?

Sort of. Intel said this week that it is indeed working on a new memory technology, called Z-Angle Memory, or ZAM, with a Softbank-backed startup called Saimemory. It’s not so much a new type of memory, but rather a new way…
