GSA published its first governmentwide snapshot of federal building utilization data, but an official says it’s not seeing an "apples-to-apples" comparison.

"We believe that very deeply, that if you have 50 states doing 50 different things, well, maybe ... the states can learn from one another," said Liam Day.

The Suitland Federal Center serves as the headquarters for the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

NSF employees and their union say the agency is requiring workers with disabilities to test new office space before honoring existing accommodations.

GSA estimates half its real portfolio of buildings is in “fair” or “poor” condition, and that its chief is on alert for elevator entrapments.

The OIG said USPS can look to other countries, like Australia and France, that have successfully developed similar initiatives.

"It's a project that we're really perfect for addressing in coordination with our sponsors and the other agencies here," said Mike Records.

"The goal here would be that this would be an entity that, if priced correctly, would be budget neutral," said Prof. Ben Collier.

An internal survey conducted by AFGE Local 3403 found that 76% of its members have indicated they are not planning to relocate.

RCM begins with a simple question: What must this asset do, how well must it perform and in what context does it operate?

More than half of USDA employees who received relocation notices under the first Trump administration left the agency rather than opt to move.

OPM Director Scott Kupor said there are no talks of a possible merger of the two agencies beyond sharing office space.

"The online catalog is a way to provide access to all these beautiful pieces that we have to the most [people]," said Charlotte Meunier.

"We hear a lot of talk about DoD willing to accept risk. But really understanding what those risks are and doing that analysis is important," said Alissa Czyz.

GSA is nearly halfway to its goal, and began this work internally. But its deputy administrator said the project could expand outside GSA if deemed successful.

"We concluded that improvements could and should be made to assist PBS in better managing its real estate portfolio," said Michelle Westrup.

Under this reorganization, the Forest Service will close regional offices and relocate that work to six hubs across the country.

The Trump administration has cited low occupancy as justification for moving several agencies out of their headquarters buildings.

The Bureau’s challenges are structural and long-standing, and they demand sustained attention from leadership, DOJ, OMB and Congress.

"If all programs were included, decision-makers would have transparency and could better identify potential wasteful or duplicative spending," Dawn Locke said.

"We'd like this to be a model moving forward for how community concerns can be integrated into research priorities," said Dr. Ashlinn K. Quinn.

The report finds that some GSA-owned federal buildings are in such poor condition that the cost to demolish or repair them “outweighs any potential reuse.”

"The nature of doing this historic renovation work is challenging because you're never 100% sure of the conditions you're dealing with," Thomas Austin said.

The Department of Government Efficiency embarked on an aggressive push to eliminate leases for federal office space last year.
