The London Bar Turning Fine Art Into Cocktails

One Aldwych is an independent, luxury hotel in the heart of London’s Covent Garden. It’s home to a 400-strong private collection of contemporary art and sculptures, which directly inspires the Gallery Menu served in the hotel’s Lobby Bar. It’s here where you may find a Horseradish Martini influenced by André Wallace’s bronze “The Boatman” or […]

Design op dinsdag (3)

Design?

“I do smoke, but I’ve moved to sugary vapes now,” I say, immediately feeling like I shouldn’t have. I’m in the elegant Edward Sahakian Cigar Lounge at the Bvlgari Hotel in Knightsbridge, explaining my smoking history to Craig King, the shop’s expert cigar sommelier.

It is widely accepted that drones have changed the conduct of modern war dramatically. The war in Ukraine, in particular, is driving the rapid evolution of drone technology. Evidence of how far things have come was provided recently by the following claim from Ukraine, reported here on The Next Web (TNW): In April, Ukrainian President […]

Patrick Radden Keefe’s ‘London Falling’ Tries To Separate Fact From Fiction

Patrick Radden Keefe is interested in blockbuster stories. He once told _The New Yorker_ ’s _Critics at Large_ podcast that he wasn’t a fan of “true crime.” Instead, he often writes about fraud, gangsters, scammers, and high-powered lawyers. He’s the bad boy at the legacy magazine, the Anthony Bourdain of journalism, whom he coincidentally profiled in 2017, a year before his death. In another…

My honest review of the £500-a-night Caledonian Sleeper train

Reporter Alice Giddings on the Caledonian Sleeper train (Picture: Caledonian Sleeper/Metro)

The Caledonian Sleeper train has been trundling between Scotland and London ever since the first service left Glasgow Queen Street Station on April 2, 1873.

Billed as the ‘journey of a night time’, it’s a mainstay at London Euston and, in its biggest development in 150 years, now serves Birmingham on the…

Gwendoline Riley’s Phantom Lives

What will it take to be fulfilled by life? Love, perhaps, or community, power, or professional success. At different points in my life I believed that having my work published would make me happy, or leaving the country, going back to school, getting a literary agent. I thought a new girlfriend might do it, or a new apartment. Some of these I achieved; some I’ve yet to; one or two, thankfully,…

London did not hold back. This Earth Day Get To Know Fevvers, Home Of The Plant-Based Feather

Ten’s To See: ‘Nhu Xuan Hua: Of Walking On Fire’ At Autograph, London

At Autograph in Shoreditch, something feels slightly off. Not in an obvious way – the space is as calm and considered as ever – but the images don’t quite behave as you expect. Faces blur at the edges, bodies merge, and familiar domestic scenes seem to shift the longer you look. In Of Walking on Fire, Nhu Xuan Hua takes the idea of the family archive and gently pulls it apart.
