Understanding 6G use cases — inference, ISAC, digital twins and physical AI

Qualcomm sees 6G commercialization being shaped by sensing, distributed intelligence and new multi-device experiences that merge the physical and digital worlds For Qualcomm, the case for 6G is about building a network platform that can sense the environment, support distributed…

Reality check: Physical AI benefits could be a decade away

Robots are cool, but real productivity from physical AI isn’t as close as boosters are making it out to be, said IT leaders at Nvidia’s GTC developer show last month.

“There’s a huge potential, a huge promise, but there’s also a lot of categories where that promise is a decade out,” said Mark Hindsbo, head of operations software at Siemens Digital Industries, during a panel discussion at the…

Physical AI, without the theatre – Siemens finds its private 5G groove

The tech is not the story (stupid!), says Siemens; it is a part of a solution, of course – just like IoT, and just like AI. Industrial enterprises have their own problems, and don’t buy the hype anyway; but sometimes private 5G helps – and so they call their crane supplier (etc), and not their […]

Ericsson draws channel closer – as private 5G jumps on physical AI

Ericsson has new tie-ups with system integrators Future Technologies and NTT Data to combine private 5G and physical AI in Industry 4.0. Ericsson appears to be picking up where Nokia has dropped off; Future Technologies is growing 35% per year. BMW brings AI humanoid robots to Leipzig factory

While C-3PO was science fiction in the first Star Wars film in 1977, humanoid robots are now a reality in BMW’s factory halls. Following Figure 2 at the Spartanburg, S.C., plant in the US, BMW is now also introducing humanoid robots at its Leipzig plant.

Figure 2 has already proven what humanoid robots are capable of at BMW’s US plant. During a 10-month pilot phase in body construction, it…

With physical AI, gunslingers and risk takers need not apply

Agentic AI came on like a storm over the past year or so, but blazed a trail littered with failed projects and cutting-edge high-tech junk that companies are still trying to sort out. So it’s perhaps no surprise that tech industry execs are urging enterprises to move cautiously with physical AI, where mistakes can have far-reaching business and societal consequences.

“We need clear boundaries…,…

A new era of humanoid robots

Synopsys ramps up work around physical AI to help build adaptive machines capable of sensing and interacting with physical environments The latest addition to AI’s book of lingo, physical AI, is already entering mainstream vocabulary. You may have heard Nvidia drumming it the loudest, but now long-time partner Synopsys is carrying the torch forward. Ahead […]
