OpenTTD Suggestions • Re: Tab: How many cars you want to add to the train

Here's the algorithm I use to build a long train with as little clicking as possible:

  1. Create a short train with, say, 4 cars.
  2. Clone the whole train.
  3. Attach the cars from the second train to the first train. Hold Ctrl to drag the whole consist.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 as needed. In just 5 repetitions, you'll get a consist of 128 cars.

General OpenTTD • Re: Age old question: "Load until full or next train arrives" function?

There are work-arounds for these issues, feasible even in the unmodifed game.

A self-regulating network ensures that the number of trains that arrive at the station is exactly sufficient to take all the supplied cargo. The situation when multiple trains are queued for loading just won't occur.

An overflow depot hides the queue away so that the waiting trains don't take space on the tracks. This…

Off-Topic • Re: Logistics: On Rails, Transport game I'm developing.

That seems quite tedious for such a mundane aspect of the game. In a typical OpenTTD game for example, bridges are spammed by the dozen. If you force the player to think about loads and durability every time he wants a bridge, the players will feel annoyed rather than entertained.

If I wanted a mini game about bridge building, I would play Cargo Bridge.

We do however greatly value all contributions made by users - they’re not insignificant and do help cover the costs of our server infrastructure. Until this month, our funds were quite low...

Here's another potential consequence I hadn't thought of. As long as the game was free on Steam, the players that come from Steam were compelled to make a donation if they liked the game. Now these…

Does it work well on Windows 11 though? I doubt it, and I doubt that Atari will spend money to make it work.

Yes, their actions are an obvious cash grab — however, this still may work out well for everybody.

  • Atari gets to rip off the players who are clueless or just don't care. However, these players receive a nostalgic set of graphics (and music) as a consolation.
  • In return, Atari…
